The Balvenie introduces its latest addition to the Stories Collection, ‘A Revelation of Cask and Character,’ a 19-Year-Old limited-edition whisky set to be released on August 1, 2023. This exceptional whisky stands out as the only one in the Stories Collection to be entirely matured in Sherry casks, specifically European Oak Oloroso Sherry Casks, providing a unique and opulent flavour profile.
Crafted under the expertise and intuition of The Balvenie’s Malt Master, Kelsey McKechnie, ‘A Revelation of Cask and Character’ pays homage to the art of coopering and showcases the significance of Sherry oak maturation in Scotch Single Malt Whisky’s history. The liquid represents years of curiosity, learning, and honing of techniques, resulting in a whisky that captivates the senses with notes of spice, rich toffee, honey, and toasted oak.
This release marks the first whisky solely designed by Kelsey McKechnie, who assumed the role of Malt Master after a six-year apprenticeship under David C. Stewart MBE. The collaboration between the coopers and the distillery team contributes to the whisky’s unique expression, making use of the cooperage both in Speyside and Jerez.
The packaging of ‘A Revelation of Cask and Character’ features a bespoke illustration by British artist Andy Lovell, depicting The Balvenie Distillery’s cooperage. With its nose of ripe fruits, caramelized orange peel, and toasted oak, and its bold taste of currants, cherries, and raisins followed by chewy fig and a creamy nutty finish, this limited-edition whisky invites enthusiasts to experience a true story of craftsmanship and passion.
‘A Revelation of Cask and Character’ joins the ranks of other Balvenie Stories expressions, such as ‘The Sweet Toast of American Oak,’ ‘Week of Peat,’ ‘The Edge of Burnhead Wood,’ and ‘A Rare Discovery From Distant Shores,’ each capturing the essence of the places where they are crafted and celebrating the creativity and dedication of The Balvenie’s Makers.
A Revelation of Cask and Character’ is now available from Harvey Nichols priced at £307.
