In celebration of World Bee Day on the 20th May 2021, Martin Miller’s Gin has created a brand new, bespoke, sustainable cocktail. Working alongside Bermondsey Street Bees, the brand will launch this exciting and delicious new tipple at a range of London’s top bars and restaurants on the big day.
Introducing the Bee’s Knees
The unique and environmentally focussed beverage features Summerful Gin and lemon, along with raw artisanal honey produced by Bermondsey Street Bees. The drink is themed on the prohibition era, and has a contemporary twist, with notes of cherry, rosemary and thyme. Known as one of the best ingredients for gin cocktails, the natural flavour found in honey gently brings out the botanicals of the spirit. The result is complex, sweet and herbaceous, with a lip-smacking citrus tang – perfect for spring into summer.
Raising awareness of World Bee Day
With the world’s pollinators under severe threat, protecting bees has to be a priority in order to solve the worsening problems around food supply and biodiversity. There are 25,000 species of bee worldwide (just seven species of which are honeybees). And they’re all in need of prompt support.
Those purchasing one of the cocktails will receive a pack of thyme seeds, (a bee-friendly herb that contributes to their conservation). Information on how to donate to bee charities will also be made available.
Martin Miller’s Summerful Gin
Martin Miller’s Gin was the first super-premium gin to hit the market back in 1999, making it a key player in the spirit’s noughties renaissance. Always seeking to innovate, the brand has had some fun creating a new take on this most classic of cocktails – the Bee’s Knees. And Bermondsey Street Bees (a brand that promotes biodiversity, bee welfare and traditional honey production methods) was the ideal partner for Martin Miller’s, sharing an ethos of quality production and the pursuit of excellence.
Martin Miller’s Gin is the most-awarded and lauded gin brand in the world, recognised and respected by the industry, connoisseurs and aficionados alike, for its quality, creativity and originality. Unlike traditional gin, their spirit undergoes a dual distillation process and has a dual national heritage; it’s distilled in England using fine botanicals and blended with pure Icelandic water.
Menus and masterclasses
Head along to some of the city’s hottest drinking spots, where you can experience dedicated menus and masterclasses. Aqua Shard, Calooh Callay in Shoreditch and Chelsea, Little Bat, Cocktail Trading Company, and Murder inc. will all be serving up the Bee’s Knees, competing to create the finest version of the drink.
If you’re unable to make it to any of the venue’s serving the cocktail, why not mix up your own at home? Here’s the simple recipe to create your Bee’s Knees:
Ingredients
- 50ml Martin Miller’s SUMMERFUL Gin
- 25ml fresh lemon juice
- 20ml Bermondsey Street Bees Exmoor Honey
Method
- Add the gin, lemon juice and honey to a shaker with some ice (if you don’t have a shaker, a jam jar or water bottle will do)
- Shake until chilled
- Strain into a cocktail glass
Not only does it taste amazing, but you’ll also be doing something positive for the environment in supporting the future of bees.
