Background and Concept
First built in 2008, the 189 all-suite hotel received a complete makeover a decade later. Featuring an eclectic mix of contemporary artworks and theatrical installations, along with a soothing, sophisticated design, the hotel feels calm, relaxing and pampering. Service is attentive, yet unobtrusive, some of the best on the island. As such, it’s proven to be a hit with celebrities, who can find privacy in pool suites, yet be close to the heart of the action in the party town of Ibiza.
Location
Located on the Paseo Maritimo in Talamanca overlooking the old town and the Dalt Vila, the property enjoys views over the Mediterranean Sea. Ibiza’s charming Old Town can be reached within a mile and a half, along with upscale shops, restaurants and the medieval ruins of the Castle of Ibiza, as can the harbour terminal, from which you can catch a ferry to the mainland. And with the airport just under 6 miles southwest, transfer times are minimal, so you can be on a lounger by the pool, less than an hour from landing. Pacha, the island’s legendary nightclub is across the road and the beach is just 500 metres away.
Ibiza Town
A short five minutes by taxi or a leisurely 15 minute stroll and you are in the heart of beautiful Ibiza Town.
Bentley
The hotel’s Bentley is always on hand and provides guests with free local distance journeys from the hotel.
Rooms and Suites
Choose from a Junior Suite Pool and Garden View; a Suite Deluxe Front or Side Sea View with an outdoor hydro-massage bathtub; or a Superior Suite Pool and Garden View — some of which feature outdoor whirlpools. All rooms come with balconies, sitting areas and hydro-massage baths as standard. Decor is sleek and minimal with clever use of design to ensure optimum convenience and minimal fuss. Families can book one of 21 interconnecting rooms, with cots and rollaway beds available on request.
Our Suite
During our stay we had one of the hotel’s Panoramic Junior Suites. Located on the hotel’s third and fourth floors these rooms boast a beautiful picture-postcard view of Ibiza’s old town and sweeping views over the Mediterranean. Furnished with a modern design, equipped for relaxation and unwinding.
They come complete with kIng or twin beds, separate shower and whirlpool bath, Smart TV, sound system, Nespresso machine and a large terrace and seating area.

The Best Suite In The Hotel The Ibiza Luxury Gran Suite
This is the hotel’s finest space, overlooking the sea with the silhouette of Formentera on the horizon, at 370 m². It has three bedrooms with their own bathrooms, a spacious living room, a terrace, and a heated hydro-massage swimming pool with a private sun terrace. It is an exceptional location to enjoy the spirit of the most exclusive and international Ibiza, opposite the lavish marinas in the port and the unique entertainment venues in the bay.
Food and Drink
While there are plenty of excellent restaurants on the doorstep, the first-class culinary offer within the hotel is likely to encourage you to stay. Begin your day with The Grand Breakfast that’s eaten on the terrace; more than a decadent buffet spread, this is a lavish gourmet spectacle which includes brunch cocktails made to order. At lunchtime, take a table at The Pool Restaurant, a relaxed alfresco daytime eatery for salads, tapas dishes and bowls of pasta.
Mid-century influence and Venetian flair combine at the indoor Cipriani, serving traditional Italian cuisine in chic retro-infused surroundings. There’s also Zuma Restaurant, which provides the option of contemporary Japanese cuisine in the informal Izakaya style, with dishes that are authentic, but not traditional — the venue is open to the marina and has received accolades including the UK’s Tatler Restaurant Awards and Most Exciting New Restaurant at Condé Nast Traveller’s Hot Tables Awards.
But the options don’t end there. ASAL, designed by David Alayeto, is a cave-like space of Gaudi-esque shapes, which has recently been awarded the Michelin Green Star award for sustainability. And last, but certainly not least, La Gaia by Óscar Molina, is the place for Michelin-starred elaborate and artistic tasting menus.
La Gaia
A first for Ibiza as it’s the first hotel restaurant on the island to gain a Michelin star. Óscar Molina is responsible for all of the eateries on the property and brings his range of unique, authentic flavours to the hotel, particularly this, his flagship restaurant. A meal here is an immersive, sensory journey that involves the full five senses, crafted from sustainable ingredients that place a zero-kilometre philosophy at the heart of the cuisine. There’s a ten-course Tanit Menu and a 14-course Posidonia Menu — both exceptionally creative and not to be missed dining experiences on the island.
Our Dining Experience
Cipriani
Located on the corner of the hotel Cipriani fuses 1960s and contemporary style with marbled floors and polished walnut wood finishes. While it opened at this location in 2012, the Cipriani brand has actually been in business for four generations, starting in Venice and winning international respect. The cuisine at Cipriani is based on classic, homely Italian dishes, crafted using high-quality ingredients – some of the recipes have been in the family for seven decades. Diners can sit inside or out, with alfresco tables on the sunset terrace, overlooking the marina. And with Harry’s bar right beside the eating area, you can continue your evening with a post-dinner cocktail.

Local Community
The hotel may serve visitors, but it has its roots in the local community, using artisan suppliers and makers in its food, drink and decor.
Bodega Can Rich
Ecologic wines, Ibicencan Liquors, olive oils, vinegar and salt come from Bodega Can Rich, a 21-hectare vineyard and olive grove 10 miles from the property — paired drinks on La Gaia’s tasting menu come from here.
Maria Ceramic Studio
The works of Ibizan-based Maria B Ceramics feature in the property; each of the pieces contains individual character and has been inspired by the organic form of nature, as well as the wabi-sabi philosophy of handmade, irregularly shaped pottery, with uneven glaze. Crafted slowly, by hand and wheel throwing, these potteries are entirely unique and limited edition.
Wellbeing, Spa & Pool
Open Spa
For enhanced wellness and the ultimate in relaxation, try the Open Spa experience at the Gran Hotel. The water circuit journey incorporates heated hydro-massage pools with jets, waterfalls and swan necks, a contrasting path, an ice pool, a Turkish bath, a Finnish sauna, aroma and contrast showers, saline inhalation baths and a relaxation area with hotbeds. Therapeutic treatments including massages, take place in individual cabins, on a terrace in the open air, or in a cabin designed for couples.
Pool Area
Two sheltered pools cater to both adults and families. A large pool with a wooden bridge over is kid-friendly, while a smaller, separate pool provides a peaceful, child-free ambience. Both are flanked by palms trees and wooden sunbeds with plush padded cushions to provide day-long lounging comfort. And the adult pool includes modern daybeds for couples’ time together.
Casino
Integrated within the Ibiza Gran’s complex, the casino comprises a games room, poker room, slot machines and a private room. A seductive space, you can play American Roulette, Black Jack and Texas Hold ’em with no limit and the latest slots. Dine in the casino’s lounge and drink in its three bars — look out for cocktails containing unexpected ingredients like curry powder, cooled with ice cubes that have playing cards carved into them. The casino’s design, by Patricia Urquiola, is multi-sensory, with works of art by renowned artists.
Experiences
There are many other activities the concierge is only too happy to arrange; historic tours of the Dalt Vila, a diving expedition with the National Geographic’s marine expert, cookery classes, exclusive access to boutiques led by the region’s pre-eminent fashionista Anita Moreno and private tours of the hotel’s remarkable art collection. You can find out more and book your stay at the sublime Ibiza Gran Hotel on the brand’s website.
Final Thoughts
The Ibiza Gran Hotel is the ultimate in island luxury, blending modern design, with relaxed and on-point service, plenty of incredible food offerings and stunning guest quarters. We couldn’t think of anywhere else we would want to be in Ibiza.
