The landmark building, La Equitativa is a city icon but one that until recently had been neglected. That has all changed with the opening of Malaga’s latest 5-star hotel, Only YOU Malaga, an on-trend, dynamic destination that is establishing itself as the city’s welcoming meeting place.
Only YOU Malaga – makes its debut in the Mediterranean city
Only YOU Malaga is much more than chic city suites and a rooftop pool. It also has a lively ground floor bar and restaurant with terrace called Carmen, and a roof top fine-dining restaurant and terrace, named Lola. Crowning the property is Lolita, a poolside cocktail bar with panoramic views of the city, the ancient alcazar fortress, and the port.
Only YOU Malaga – Contemporary style with original art deco accents
Mediterranean Malaga
The story of Malaga’s renaissance is increasingly well-known. This gateway city to the coastal resorts of Andalucía’s most popular shoreline has now become a compelling destination in itself.
Earlier chapters of this tale were defined by art, gastronomy, and architecture.
Art and culture
The opening of the Picasso Museum Málaga put the city of the international cultural map, and further gallery openings, including Carmen Thyssen Málaga, the Contemporary Arts Centre (CAC) and of course the Centre Pompidou Málaga, have now cemented the city’s credentials as a European capital of art.
Only YOU Malaga is at the heart of this artsy scene, offering guests the opportunity to explore the neighbouring Soho district that promised independent studies, galleries, and bohemian creativity.
From Tapas to Michelin stars
Malaga’s gastronomy is winning over the critics, from a burgeoning rooftop gourmet tapas and cocktails scene to authentic regional fare prepared with flair and accompanied by award-winning Malaga mountain wines. Michelin star cuisine at the likes of Jose Carlos Garcia restaurant is also setting the standards for world-class dining.
Carmen, the all-day Andalucian tavern
Eating is all about being sociable in Malaga, a reflection of Andalucía’s vibrant ad warm culture. Carmen, the gourmet tapas bar, and restaurant with an all-day kitchen is at the heart of Only YOU Malaga’s relaxed and inviting food scene.
Carmen, is the all-day dining experience at Only YOU Malaga
Carmen is the hotel’s elegant interpretation of an Andalucian tavern, found on the ground floor. The bar & restaurant celebrates the spirit and energy of the city, as well as the region’s produce. Gourmet tapas and sharing plates are prepared with high quality local and regional produce.
The double-height glass doors fold open, making the space part of the city, inviting passers-by to drop in for a glass of chilled wine or a tasty bite to eat. This is where the city meets.
The menu showcases the classic kitchen of southern Spain but presents it in a contemporary, stylish way. Expect superb seafood, almadraba tuna, cured hams, and popular tapas like croquettes and salads.
Lola, Fine Dining Rerrace Restaurant
Lola is the 7th-floor Mediterranean restaurant of the hotel, focusing on local produce, prepared on the kitchen’s charcoal grills.
Lola, the fine-dining restaurant and terrace, at Only YOU Malaga
Expect first-class ingredients prepared in innovative ways, like the almadraba bluefin tuna served as tacos, or steak tartare with smoked ham. The artichokes roasted in the charcoal oven with fine Andalucian extra virgin olive oil and a touch of salt are superb!
Architectural Malaga
Malaga was once maligned for its lack of charm, yet finally, the city is being recognised for its architectural merits. The centre’s old town is a delight, and the main thoroughfare, Calle Larios, is an elegant and sophisticated pedestrianised street that leads directly to Only YOU Malaga, within the now fully restored landmark La Equititiva building. Here Art Deco elements have been enhanced with a contemporary urban Mediterranean design that defines the hotel.
The city’s port has been revitalised with landmark architectural elements like the giant sparking pergola that has the quayside on one edge and palm-filled gardens on the other.
City Hotels
Now finally hospitality is in the spotlight and writing a new chapter in Malaga’s history. The city’s hotel scene is heating up, and at the forefront is Only YOU Malaga.
Guest Rooms & Suites
Warm Mediterranean tones make the guest rooms particularly welcoming. Natural materials, plenty of unstained wood, and lots of Andalucian light are the defining features of each of the Deluxe, Premium and Junior Suite.
Views are of the main Boulevard, Calle Larios, or the port. Soundproofing is good. Some rooms have terrace balconies too.
I was impressed by the king bed, immaculately prepared with pressed linens. The rooms are elegant yet with a personality that is so much part of the spirit of Only YOU, from the playful bathrobes to the thoughtful welcome amenity, including a personalised city guide, presented as a newspaper.
Only YOU Malaga is part of the city’s on-trend food scene, part of the lively roof terrace cocktail and dining scene and a great base from which to get to know better this Mediterranean city.
Only You Malaga is included in our guide to the best hotels in Malaga.
